Australia is exposed to disasters caused by natural hazards that impact infrastructure, essential services and communities. Over the past 30 years, these disasters have resulted in billions of dollars in tangible costs, as well as intangible costs such as deaths, injuries and other social impacts, including on health and wellbeing. More than 9 million people have been affected by both immediate and, for some, long-term effects.
Our Work
The Australian Business Roundtable for Disaster Resilience & Safer Communities (ABR) is widely recognised for its ground-breaking disaster risk reduction and resilience research quantifying the economic costs of disasters and contributing to the policy response. This work has underpinned the ABR’s significant contribution to the national policy debate and generated valuable links amongst the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors.
